How Books Transformed My Life
I have been a voracious reader since as far back as I can remember. I suppose I inherited that trait from my mother, who read novels even while cooking meals on a Chula.
I read anything and everything I could lay my hands on—newspapers, magazines, storybooks, comic books. It all started there.
Growing up was amazing in the sense that there were no distractions. No TV, no phones. To be frank, only books could distract you .I often had to hide while reading books because I found my studies mundane compared to the fascinating and interesting worlds that storybooks presented.
My family lovingly contributed to my passion, providing me with books, comics, and access to libraries. This journey of exploration has encompassed diversity. I’ve delved into Hindi and English, old and new, fiction and nonfiction, classics and popular works, newspapers, cuttings, and even dictionaries when the supply was short.
Each good book has, at times, left me wide-eyed, dreamy, idealistic, and at other times, thoughtful or realistic. It has given me a new perspective, made me sensitive to my surroundings, and prompted introspection. Books have given me courage at times and hopelessness at others. They have made me laugh, brood, and fall in love with life. Books have been my constant best friends, providing company, conversation, wisdom, and entertainment simultaneously.
Books and Me
Over the years, I’ve realized that books have given objectivity to my thinking, made me more sensitive, expanded my horizon, and made me observant of my surroundings. A good book has the capacity to move you each time you read it, offering a different takeaway with each visit.
What makes a book and its story relevant in the age of visual assault through all other media is how it provides a more intimate experience. When reading or listening to it, you can have your own unique experience, living it in your head.
Every good book, whether fiction or nonfiction, has a story to tell, an insight to be reflected on, and a world to be inhabited by the reader. This blog Books And Me intends to dive straight into the world of letters, words, emotions, insight, and stories to find some gems there.
